Murat Harmanlıklı is an Istanbul street photographer capturing candid moments, intimate portraits, and the restless rhythm of daily life. Rooted in the streets of Istanbul, his work explores human presence within the layered narratives of urban space.
He holds a degree in Economics from Marmara University, yet his artistic vision has been shaped as much by literature as by photography. Deeply influenced by novels and fictional characters, he believes that the inner worlds constructed through literature can be as visually powerful as photographs themselves. This literary sensitivity informs his approach to storytelling — each frame becoming part of a larger emotional and narrative continuum.
Guided by quiet observation and empathy, Harmanlıklı works like a contemporary flâneur, walking through crowds not only to witness the city but to discover its subtle psychological landscapes. His photographs often focus on fleeting gestures, solitude within proximity, and the invisible threads that bind individuals to the urban flow.
His work has been recognized internationally, receiving honors and features from LensCulture, The Independent Photographer, Life Framer, IPA (International Photography Awards), All About Photo, and Eyeshot Magazine, among others.
He is currently developing a long-term book project titled “Istanbul, in the Flux of an All-Embracing Moment,” a visual exploration of the city’s fragmented yet deeply interconnected human stories.
Alongside his personal projects, he leads photo walks and street photography workshops in Istanbul, guiding photographers through carefully designed routes while sharing his narrative-driven approach to seeing and storytelling.
